i love text adventures but...

I love text adventures! Zork, Planetfall, Infidel, the list goes on. And i love that someone else is also into text adventures. Tis a dying breed.

But you have some problems. First of, Flash and AS is a horrible language to make a text adventure in. Try Java, its simple, your games will look a lot like the original Infocom genre of epicness, and you can do a lot more, more easily.

Flash is great for scripted visual games. Keyword: visual. While you can make a game like this in flash, why would you? its like buying a brand new car just because you want to listen to a new radio. ive made quite a few text games in java and it is great and easy sailing. another route you might like is that there are many many text game constructors out on the internet. basically imagine the idiot proof cookie cutter learnability of Frontpage 2003 only with text games, and with some skill (just like in Frontpage) you can actually make something worth playing.

also one last thing, and i think this would also be easier in java, you need to make your verb list a lot longer and better. not because its easy, by no means im sure it would be very tedious for you to add more verbs, but because its the only way youll get people to play this game for this reason: why would i bother to play your text adventure escape game when games like Zork (I, II, III, IV, 0, etc) and Planetfall are epic, have the same gameplay only much much more complex text parsers, and are totally shareware now?
you need to expand vastly or give up on this dying market.

thanks for the site! seems like a pretty good place to pick up some things for future games. actionscript is all i can program right now (not terribly well, i might add) but if java is so easy, maybe i'll use that as an excuse to begin to learn it hehe :) making this game was more time consuming than i wanted it to be, but i was hoping i'd learn from it and figure out a way to make it much quicker and simpler to program the same thing.

ok exactly like the other game that i have played and yes u did give it props but when i went to ur site (the new one and the old one) everything seems to be stolen cuz i kno u didnt make any of that stuff so im really doubting the authenticity of this game here......

THE FLASH "AS" GOD COMETH!!!

ok the person b4 me and the author. I couldnt get the animations to stop for the walking either so i looked at the as u told us to put on the player and worked on it till i got this. **do everything else in the tut the same up to the part where it tells u to put in the codes to stop the animations when u press the keys**

1) ok instead of putting in the four codes he tells u too put in these codes in the designated spots. Put this first code in frame 5 of player inside of the mc u made to show walking. (ie click the mc when on frame 5 of player and go to actions then paste this)

put this code for frame 6....(do the same as i told u for 5 only now for 6)

And thats how i fixed my problem. If it doesnt work for u then u might be doing what i said wrong or it just works for me (i have flash 8 pro)
Also do everything else this guy says cuz its a great tutorial except for this one part that must be outdated or he copied his stuff from his own as wrong or somethin......

that was the funniest thing i have ever seen in a long time. It was so bad that i laughed the whole time reading all of ur horrible spelling mistakes and how u get mad at every1 else who says its bad and then go to other ppls better rpg tuts and say thet sux in ur horrible spelling its classic comedy right there.

Also it was a kool idea. I think your animation skils sux though and all the fades and tweens look bad. Your drawings are ok. For a noob though ill give you points for originality and with some work your stuff could be much better...dare i say great? Plus try using the paint tool instead of the pen (iim guessing you used the pen) because it auto smooths. Or if you really like the pen make sure you set it on really smooth so your lines dont look so shakey (or go slower if its your hand).

BTW did you trace your NG logo (or use onion skinning?) because you either did really good besides the shakey lines or if you did trace dont flout it around because ppl will just think your a braggart who cant draw.

Yeah, I traced the NG logo. I think that's totally cheating if I say that I drew it myself. I was going to delete that "I drew it myself" thing, but as you know, I can't. Also, just so you know, I actually made this game, like, 5 months ago. I know that may not seem like much, but believe me. I've really improved since then. XD

nice tut but lacks one thing

the music was good but i would have liked to see a volume control button because it was kinda loud at times. Other then that very nice job.

Some things dont belong in your mouth, im one of them.
